Modern Methods of Construction

Our journey with Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) pre-dates our practice and began in the late 1990s. Both Michael Lamb and Rory Ryan were dipping their toes in the fascinating waters of MMC.

In Limerick City, Techrete panels were designed and built off site as part of Harvey’s Quay City Block Development. The use of these panels allowed us to control quality and cost as well as reducing the on-site construction period.

A short few years later we were building Social Housing in Ballymun using Pod Bathrooms. 135 Pods arrived over a period of weeks and avoided the need for coordinating multiple trades. It maximised efficiency and minimised waste.

Our involvement in MMC and off-site construction continues to expand. RYAN+LAMB Architects currently have a variety of project types using MMC.

We are involved in the construction of schools and offices using 3D Modular Construction. Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) Construction has been used for both residential extensions and one-off houses.

And we are a big fan of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF). Their versatility for residential projects, their thermal and structural properties and their ease of construction are a few factors that we love.
